Road to the White House 2008 with Giuliani

The day finally came

Today I am home, but yesterday was campaigning in snow. Election day was very busy. I had a lot of fun with Maggie, Megan and some guys from D.C. We did some phone calling, lit dropping and exit polling. Unfortunately we came in at 4th place. Though the Mayor haven't spent too much time and money campaigning in NH, we still worked our butts off. Giuliani's plan is to win Florida. Now that I am home I plan to continue working on his campaign... All and all, I enjoyed my stay in NH, and working with the people I worked with on the Giuliani campaign. It was definitely a learning experience! :)

It was great seeing Rudy again!

Well, as it turns out we were not able to meet with Rudy. GRRRR!!! However, we did get to attend a meet-and-greet with him. We held a semi-rally before the actual production took off. I enjoyed seeing Rudy again and meeting the former Nashua mayor, Mayor Davidson! ;)

We had a full campaign office today! In fact, this was the first day the office seemed like a functioning campaign. Volunteer activity was bustling. My two favorite volunteers are Agnes and Norm from New Jersey. They are the sweetest people, and they love Rudy!... Tomorrow Maggie and I will get to meet Rudy. He will be visiting diners on Main Street, which is just down the street from the Nashua campaign office. Yeah!!!

Highlight of the Day: Hotel Caught On Fire

Well, today wasn't the most successful day campaigning. In fact, I did not get to do anything for Giuliani. Dante Scala came to our class as a guest speaker. He has definitely been the most interesting speaker we've met with yet. I really enjoyed his opinion! Our class meeting with him was the last productive activity of my day. The hotel caught on fire! It was quite an ordeal. We are now residing in Massachusetts. Oh well, it's not all bad. Our hotel room was upgraded.

Today as a class we visited the New Hampshire Capitol Building. It was beautiful!.... But anyway, the best part of my day came when Maggie and I had the opportunity to shake hands with Mayor Giuliani at the town hall meeting tonight in Nashua. We sat on stage as Rudy gave his speech, video taped and all! What a proud moment. After he spoke, I walked up to him and said, "I'm from Florida here to help you in NH. When I get home I'll be campaigning there to help you win Florida." He said, "That's great! Thank you! I need that! :-P

Starting off the day with a bang!

Former Director of the FBI, Louis Freeh endorsed Rudy Giuliani for President of the United States. Freeh is set to serve as the Senior Homeland Security Advisor and Chair of the Mayor's campaign in Delaware. Louis is a personal friend and colleague of Rudy. It was awesome to have meet him! He seems very enthusiastic about the Mayor and his potential as a candidate. Another student from our class, Paul, came to visit the Giuliani campaign as a journalism student reporting on his experience in this office. Paul was able to record Mr Freeh in conversation with Maggie and I. Later that day Maggie, Paul and I ate lunch at Norton's Diner. We did even more phone banking. We're informing the constituent of yet another speech.

Live Free or Die??

Concord is a beautiful Capitol city. Nice and charming old looking buildings filled the political area downtown. We visited the New Hampshire's historic library and then saw a muesum of NH Primary artwork and campaign collectables. The class and I also took a trip to both the Republican and Democrat State Headquarters and meet with the Chairs of each party. Of course I prefered the Republican headquarter! ;)

... Well sort of , it was actually a rather boring day in the office, and sooo longgg. :-/ Fortunately for Maggie and I we were able to enjoy a little fun time in the snow. It was so COOL! On our lunch break we decided to walk up and down Elm Street while it was snowing. How beautiful! That short-lived excitement died in the campaign office though. All the work I was given today was a continuation of yesterday's call lists. BOO! The campaign is really trying to get the word out about Giuliani's speech tomorrow. From all the target calling I've done lately, I realized this town's constituents do not like political phone calls. I'm sure they have been receiving these calls for months now, but still, they are rude, rude, rude!

Today was awesome! I really enjoyed my internship placement. I was blessed with not only great campaign supervisors, but also with Maggie. We spent a lot of time discussing New Hampshire's primary history and how it effects the political process. My campaign supervisors Megan Robertson and Dave Chesley really made me feel comfortable in the office. Dave took Maggie and I to Martha's Exchange Restuarant and Brewing Co. today for lunch. According to Dave, this is a very popular stop for the candidates to visit. He informed us that as much as possible, he will try to introduce Maggie and I to the town. That's great! I'm so egar to see what life would be like as a resident and voter of New Hamshire. What an opportunity!... Besides that, I phone banked. I called targeted voters and informed them about a policy speech which will be held on Jan. 2nd.

My first day in Hew Hampshire

Today was a day spent settling in. The class and I were welcomed to New Hampshire with cold weather... I have many expectations for tomorrow. I plan to bring enthusiasm and energy to the Giuliani campaign. I would really like to meet him and other presidential hopefuls. I have had the opportunity to work on other campaigns. My greatest ambitions for this internship would be to experience the political process in another environment. I can't wait!! :-)
